What's Up With My Blog Title

When I first created my Spaces Space, or Blog, or Whatever, I promised to explain the title "We Are Not A Mused".  Obviously, I was trying for a catchy title that would be memorable on some level.  And as we dig into this choice, you will see that it has that sort of meaning on several levels, plus a few more.  Thus my contribution to the literary arts!

Perhaps one of the biggest misconceptions of non-bloggers is the idea that bloggers are ego-maniacal pontificators.  If you have just fallen off the turnip truck and found my blog as your first exploration of the Great Internet, I'd like to dispell that notion.  Despite what you see here.

The title is obviously a play on the phrase "We are Not a Muse" in the sense that I am not an authority or an ego maniac.  If you read on, you will see that I am perhaps distorting the actual sense of "muse" which can mean "deep thinker".  Of course, that personal characteristic can best be judged by others.

On the other hand, I confess that my ego drives me to express opinions.  To make things worse, my mother also taught me how to debate and argue my position on things at an early age.  Forcefully and with determination.  Like "If you let me go play with my friend down the street, I won't bother Dad."

Maybe this little entry on my blog is really a tribute to my Mom on Mother's Day.  It's just too bad that my parents are computer and Internet agnostics that don't recognize the all powerful Net or even have one computer.  They'll never actually see this.  Anyway, she gets a lot of credit for my determination to write and argue, without the benefit of actual talent in either of these areas.

Officially and for the record: these thoughts are my own, offered up for pure entertainment value or perhaps to stimulate a bit of thinking, not to be confused in any way with policies of the companies I work for or anything that might have some legal connection.  Especially litigious connections.

Now it's time to present the true meaning of Muse, and reveal how that ties into the Space I have created.  Below are some definitions of Muse, as presented by the online version of Microsoft's Encarta:

verb  (past mused, past participle mused, present participle mus·ing, 3rd person present singular mus·es) 1. transitive and intransitive verb think about something: to think about something in a deep and serious or dreamy and abstracted way

    2. transitive and intransitive verb say something thoughtfully: to say something in a thoughtful or questioning way ( literary )

    3. intransitive verb gaze thoughtfully: to gaze at somebody or something thoughtfully or abstractedly ( literary )

noun  thoughtful state: a state of deep thought ( literary )
[14th century. From Old French muser  “to meditate,” perhaps literally “to go around with your nose in the air,” from muse  “muzzle, snout,” from medieval Latin musum  (source of English muzzle).]

Here is my Spaces trivia, based on the information you now have at your disposal:

    • This is hosted on Microsoft Spaces, and to muse is to "gaze thoughtfully".  At night we might go outside to "star gaze".  It is very natural to pick planets and stars as a backdrop for my Space
    • We Are Not A Mused, means Walt is not an accepted authority.  I'll never be invited to the Longhorn Team 99 (more on that later).
    • We Are Not A Mused, means that Walt can be a cantakerous curmugeon.  I will try to call it like I see it, and sometimes I'm definitely not amused.  But I'll try to make it somewhat educational and entertaining.
    • I hope that the Internet provides an open way to publish and communicate.  People should not be muzzled (see above associate with "muse").

I'd go on, but I'm trying to keep these entries short enough to be readable.  Muse on this entry a bit, you may discover other trivia not listed here!
